Are you familiar with gingivitis and the risks that it can pose to your oral health? Gingivitis is an early stage of periodontal disease, also known as gum disease. If gum disease is present, it can often lead to infections in areas around your teeth and can cause various oral health risks to flare up. To help prevent gum disease from reaching more advanced stages, you will want to treat it as soon as it is found.

Some of the common symptoms associated with gum disease include issues arising from various hindrances to your oral health that may be occurring. If you’re suffering from diabetes, bad breath, or you have genetic markers for gum disease, you may be at an increased risk of suffering from the condition. Furthermore, medications that you’re taking may produce dry mouth as a side effect, which is a known risk factor for gum disease.

Spotting gum disease includes always looking for signs and symptoms that it may be present. If you’re suffering from gingivitis, there may be symptoms that begin to arise, indicating abnormalities with your gums. If you notice gums that are excessively red or swelling, or you are routinely suffering from bleeding gums whether you are brushing or flossing or eating, it may be linked to a gum tissue infection.
